Have you ever heard of the short film Tora?


TORA follows a jaded city woman who inherits a property in BC's Interior and is haunted by a little ghost girl. Jenna discovers through dreams and flashbacks of her new neighbour (Suzuki) that her land was a Japanese Internment Camp during WWII. Parental Guidance: Drug Use


The amount of things that make this short film epic are, well, innumerable, but i'll try and pick out some thing to share:
First and foremost: David Suzuki, man, the man with the environmental plan!

Mr. Suzuki makes a special appearance in this amazing short detailing the injustices suffered by Japanese Canadians in World War II. What a fascinating and deep subject to take on in a short film, and this short does it incredibly well!

Madame Perrault's Bluebeard!

Have you ever heard of the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival?
If you haven't, I recommend dropping everything, grabbing some plane tickets to France, and living the life In Clermont-Ferrand for the last weekend of the acclaimed International Short Film Festival, which runs February 4-12th. (you better be back by March 4th though!)

If dropping all of your daily responsibilities is not as feasible as a International jet setter, don't fret! The Vancouver Women in Film Festival features a short film which has its international debut in France. How cool is that?!

Amy Belling is excited to announce that her latest short film Madame Perrault's Bluebeard, directed by A.J. Bond and produced/shot by Amy Belling, will premiere at Clermont-Ferrand! After the whirlwind adventure in France, the film will be screening at VWIFF on March 5th at 1PM.

Black Field!

So, I know your thinking, 'Hey, Vancouver Women in Film Festival 2011, I already know you are the awesomesauce which I can drizzle over my popcorn while watching all of the incredible films from March 4-6th at the Vancity Theatres, but if I needed that extra kick, where exactly could I be linked to on the internet to add that extra pizzazz?!' (you were thinking that, right...?)

Lucky for you we have been mentioned by National Screen Institute, On Screen Manitoba, and Northern Stars for our opening film Black Field. 

Black Field will screen at Vancouver Women in Film Festival Friday March 4th at 7PM.

We here at the Vancouver Women in Film Festival have always known that the Georgia Straight is the rock star of Van-city publications, so we were quite pleased when the Straight pulled us up on the proverbial stage and rocked our world.

To paraphrase Destiny’s Child: all the women who are independent filmmakers, throw your hands up for this event! With five features (including the opening film Black Field) and more than 40 short films, a digital-media forum, an aboriginal showcase, panel discussions, networking opportunities, pitch sessions, and plenty more, the sixth annual VWIFF will keep your schedule humming along right up to a special short-film showcase on International Women’s Day (March 8).
